Legless In Dublin will be detailing the levels of wheelchair friendliness in restaurants, cafés, bars, hotels, shops, cinemas, parks and pretty much anywhere I visit.
I will list out ramps, bathroom sizes, the spaces between tables, wideness of doors, if there are steps or not and the general helpfulness of staff.
About Me
I'm Louise Bruton and I started using a wheelchair two years ago. Before that, I used crutches full time. When I was 17, I had my right foot amputated and from that point, many jokes about me being legless (because I liked the odd tipple) were thrown about. Well, the joke was in their face because before the amputation, I had a pretty decent hollow leg anyway.
I have written numerous articles on accessibility for everyone on my own blog, www.notverywise.com, and for the Irish Times. A quick Google will bring you to them.
Legless In Dublin is not poking fun at anybody. It's trying to help and open up the city to everyone. This can only happen once everyone can get their foot in the door, AMIRITE?

Great idea - I have a pinterest board where I post up reviews of cafes that I've visited - or tried to visit - with my daughter with severe disabilities :) So I will be following all your reviews with great interest :)

ReplyDeleteI have to say dating a girl with a disability would not bother me in the slightest way as when I was 19 I went for a date with a girl I was just mad about her really good looking and great personality but her family did not like the idea of me seeing there daughter because I am what people call a able bodied person I always find myself thinking about her a lot and if she got married and had kids.If anyone wants to go out for a date and are in a chair call me in my eyes were all the same!!!!
